Experience

Academic and Athletic Development

Web and Social Media Director

At AAD, my duties are very broad and have prepared me to be an agile employee, able to adapt to changing work environments. I am responsible for three websites and twitter accounts as well as a hockey-specific facebook account which are updated on a daily basis. I have a rapport with local media outlets, gained through setting up media availabilities, producing radio ads and building ads for heavily trafficked websites. On the design side, my duties include designing clothing for the schools as well as designing print and web advertisements. I am responsible for technology research and purchasing including computer hardware and software. On top of all of these tasks, I find time to be on the ice for hockey instruction.

Web

website_header
I am very comfortable in the web world. From the acquisition of domain and hosting through planning, design, development and content creation for a completed site.

From the 1st website I made for my ill-fated high school band to present day, I have become proficient in HTML/CSS and continue to learn new tricks through every page push and post.

I am comfortable working in the wordpress environment, which has become the world’s most popular Content Management System. I currently build wordpress sites for local clients (theme customization, widgets and plugins) and train people on how to work within the system.

I am responsible for content creation for all of the AAD websites and have helped to more than triple the visits to their sites in the past 4 years.

AAD_Website_graph

Last year, I was project manager/user experience designer for AAD’s transition from a sport-specific web presence (5 sites – BJJ, Lacrosse, Sport Recreation, Hockey and AAD) to a campus-specific presence (Donnan, Vimy and AAD).

The AAD sites were also moved from a HTML/CSS format, with no CMS for easy page and post updates, to a wordpress-based format. This change was predicated upon having the ability for employees unfamiliar with coding to update the site should the need ever arise.

When working on web projects I use the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver) to create impactful content.

Social Media

social-media-header
As much as social media has been adopted by the professional world, in some ways it is still the wild west. Consider this whole site an offer to be your organization’s Wyatt Earp.

I have extensive knowledge and experience with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Through my work with AAD, I create meaningful and entertaining content while adhering to the policies and expectations of the Edmonton Public School Board.

In the past 3 years, I have used the Twitter and Facebook platforms to engage, inform and entertain our student-athletes, alumni and their families. During this time, our twitter followers have significantly outpaced our competition in the Edmonton Area.

AAD_Social_media_graph

In concert with the transition to a campus-based web presence, the AAD Twitter feeds have been changed from an account for each of the five sport programs to one for each campus (Donnan, Vimy) and one for AAD itself.

I am excited for the possibility of a role that would expand my social media acumen and allow for more time to be devoted to market research and analytics.
